Description

Sã̄gle buṭṭā (साँगले बुट्टा); "Ornamentation in chains".1

The description given in the dictionary is very brief, so it is hard to know exactly what is meant. The fact that buṭṭā (बुट्टा) can refer to embroidery, braid, and filigree also does not help narrow it down.

Work that could be described as "ornamentation in chains" can be seen in the fine quillwork embroidery of some 19th century khukurī, but also in the filigree work on the silver scabbard mounts of some kothimora khukurī.

Nepalese quill embroidery

Fine quill embroidery on a mid 19th-century khukurī.

Silverwork on kukri sabbard

Braided work in fine silver wire on the scabbard of a kothimora khukurī.
